Brown Butter Sourdough Chocolate Chunk Cookie Bars

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, browned

  • 1/2 cup cane sugar

  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1 egg + 1 egg yolk

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup sourdough discard

  • 1 & 3/4 cups all purpose flour

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 1 heaping cup chocolate chunks (I do a mix of dark and milk chocolate)

Recipe:

  • Preheat your oven to 350F and line a quarter sheet pan with parchment paper.

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the butter, cane sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Whisk in the eggs, vanilla, and sourdough discard until well combined.

  • Next, mix in the flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder until you have a dough. Fold in the chocolate chunks (set a small handful aside to sprinkle on top).

  • Transfer the dough to the sheet pan, and spread + flatten it using your hands or a spatula. Sprinkle with the remaining chocolate chunks.

  • Transfer to the oven and bake for 22-25 mins.

  • Top the bars with flaky salt, slice into squares, and enjoy!
